Diamond Painting Instructions & Tips

How to Diamond Paint

English:

  1. Peel back a small section of the clear protective film on the diamond painting canvas. Do not remove all the film at once.
  2. Choose a symbol on the diamond painting canvas to work on.
  3. Refer to the legend to identify which color diamond will be placed in each grid of your selected symbol.
  4. Open the corresponding color diamond bag and place some diamonds of your selected color onto the diamond tray.
  5. Gently shake the diamond tray side-to-side, tilting the tray towards its back slightly to align the diamonds facet-side up on the tray.
  6. Open the wax container and peel back the top plastic cover from the wax pad. Press the tip of your diamond applicator firmly into the wax until you have filled the tip with wax.
  7. Using the diamond applicator pick up a diamond from the diamond tray and place it on the canvas over your selected symbol.
  8. Continue this process until all grids on the diamond painting canvas are filled with diamonds.

    Espagnol:

    1. Retire una pequeña sección de la película protectora transparente en el lienzo de pintura de diamantes. No quite toda la película a la vez.

        Additional Helpful Tips

        Organizing Your Diamonds

Use your own storage containers or the baggies included with your kit to store your diamonds. Then use the pre-cut stickers included with your kit to label your diamonds by matching the sticker with the color and symbol legend on your canvas.

        Static Cling

All diamonds, whether hand or machine packed, have static. To better control the static, place small pieces of dryer sheets into your diamond containers or baggies. In addition, you can swab around the inside of the machine packs, containers and/or baggies with a Q-tip that has been lightly wet with rubbing alcohol.

        Placing AB Drills

AB drills have a special coating which can sometimes stick to the wax of your diamond applicator and make diamonds more difficult to place. Use the curved plastic applicator tip included with your kit to place AB drills. This applicator has a smaller tip that uses less wax and will more easily release the diamonds onto the canvas.

        Sectioning Off Your Canvas

For more consistent and straighter diamond placement, work in smaller sections on your canvas. This also allows you to straighten the drills after each section before moving on to the next section. We recommend sectioning off your canvas using washi tape (included in your canvas) or release papers and using a ceramic cutting tool to cut the plastic film off of each smaller section.

        Using Tweezers

For square diamond kits, you can use either the diamond applicator or the tweezers (square kits only) to pick up and place your diamonds onto the canvas. It is a matter of personal preference; however, we recommend you try both for some time to see which works best for you. While some may find it difficult to work with tweezers at first, there are many people who place diamonds quite fast using them.

Understanding the Lingo – Confetti and Color-Blocking

Diamond painters often use the terms confetti and color-blocking. Confetti simply refers to areas on your diamond painting that contain a lot of color changes in a small section while color-blocking refers to areas on your canvas that contain a large section of a single color. Different techniques and tricks are recommended and used for confetti and color-blocking.

        Checkerboard Technique

This method is especially recommended for use with confetti-heavy areas or with square diamond kits as it enables more accurate diamond placement. This technique simply involves placing diamonds in a checkerboard pattern, and then following up by filling in the open spaces created by the initial checkerboard.

        Multi-Placing

Multi-placing diamonds is often easier with color-blocking since the larger areas of a single color allow placement of multiple diamonds at once using the 4-placer and 7-placer tips included with your kit, or with other multi-placers you may have purchased separately.

        About Our Diamond Trays

All but our smallest diamond painting kits come with a closing double diamond tray. We chose these trays intentionally because for one, they have a locking spout. In addition, these, trays when collected over time with multiple purchases, can be interlocked side-by-side and as well, can be stacked and locked in place to store your diamonds. You can also use the extra white labels from your sticker sheets to label the trays with colors from your kit so you do not have to change the diamonds out as often.
